🧭 The Secret to Finding Your Purpose (Hint: It’s Not What You Think)
Ever freeze when someone asks, “What’s your purpose?” or spiral when journaling about your “why”? Been there. For years, my default answer was, “My son.” He’s my heart, but I realized he’s not my entire purpose; he’s part of the story, not the whole plot.
💬 My (Evolving) Purpose Statement:
“I inspire and guide others by helping them set achievable goals, using my empathy, coaching skills, and resilience, and guided by authenticity, growth, and compassion. My ultimate goal is to help people live happier and more fulfilling lives.”
Let me be real, this isn’t set in stone. Purpose grows as you do. Think of your purpose like your favorite hoodie: cozy, familiar, but one day, you outgrow it, and that’s okay.
👩👦 Where My Son Fits In
Family is absolutely part of my why. But the deeper magic? Living my purpose for him, not because of him.
📚 The other day, while eating his cereal, my son looked over and said,
“Holy cow, Mom! I can tell people my mom is a published author!”
Cue the tears. That moment reminded me: when I show up fully, I’m not just inspiring strangers—I’m influencing the little human watching me the closest.
🔍 Why Purpose Makes Life So Much Easier
When your purpose is clear, decision-making gets simpler:
Does this opportunity align with my values?
Will this stretch me or deplete me?
Does this feel authentic?
If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a kind “not right now.”
🛠 How to Create Your Purpose Statement
Write your own with this 3-part framework:
1. Your Core Values
🧭 These are your anchors—non-negotiables that guide your life.
Examples: authenticity, resilience, growth
2. Your Passions
🔥 What lights you up? What could you talk about all day without getting tired?
Examples: helping people, storytelling, creating
3. Your Strengths
💪 What are you naturally great at?
Examples: listening, coaching, problem-solving
✨ Pro Tip: Your purpose statement doesn’t need to go viral. It needs to feel real.
Write it. Try it on. Revisit often. Let it grow with you.
📌 Purpose Is Messy. And That’s Beautiful.
It’s not a one-time declaration—it’s a practice.
✅ It changes with life seasons.
✅ It evolves with your identity.
✅ It won’t look like anyone else’s—and that’s the point.
