Start Messy, Adjust Later: The Mid-Year Reminder You Need

Let’s smash a myth real quick: You do NOT need a flawless plan to chase your goals. If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time,” the perfect energy, or the perfect spreadsheet to start… surprise—that moment doesn’t exist.

Trust me, I've been there, done that. You also don’t need to wait for Monday… or maybe next Monday. 🤨

Here’s your permission slip to start messy and adjust later.

The Halfway Point Panic

It’s July. You might be staring at your 2025 goals, wondering where the first half of the year disappeared to. You’re not alone. The pressure to have it all figured out by now? It's real, but also nonsense. Progress doesn’t require perfection; it requires action.

Case in point: I’ve been trying to build this business for the past five years… but at least I started.

When I launched this blog, I gave myself three months to get it out into the world. It didn’t have to be perfect. So what actually happened? Classic overachiever move—I spiraled into overthinking. After the first post, I blanked on what to write next.

But guess what? It still worked because I adjusted as I went. Honestly, it’s still not where I want it to be—but I’m staying consistent. Showing up every week, writing, dumping all my emotions, and helping others in the process. If you’re feeling stuck? You’re not alone. I’ve been there too.

And now? I’m relaunching the podcast.
I just recorded the trailer, imperfectly perfect. No fancy equipment, definitely edited by yours truly. But this time around? There’s more structure to my business, so naturally, more structure to the podcast.

Was the podcast even on my goal sheet this year? Absolutely not. But after ignoring the universe screaming at me to start again… I finally listened. Fine, fine, I do listen… sometimes.

The Myth We’re Smashing:

“You need a crystal-clear, Pinterest-worthy plan before you start.”

Look, a crystal or two won’t hurt 😉🤪. I’ve got them everywhere—Obsidian, Lapis Lazuli, my favorite Amethyst—all doing their part to boost my creative flow.

Reality? You can (and should) start exactly where you are, with messy notes, half-baked ideas, and caffeine-fueled motivation. That’s where the magic happens.

I was just on vacation, trying my hardest not to work… failed that about 10% of the time. Grabbed my phone, jotted down ideas in my Notes app. Call it the digital version of the “napkin idea”, except this time I didn’t accidentally throw it away. Growth!

Why Mid-Year Is Prime Time to Reset

Forget January 1st. Summer is an underrated reset button. It’s the season for messy, imperfect action:

☀️ Reflect: What worked? What didn’t? Why haven’t I started? Why can’t I stay consistent?
☀️ Reset: Adjust your goals without guilt. Shift your mindset or your methods.
☀️ Repeat: Take small, consistent steps, even the sloppy ones count.

Start Small, But Start Now

Little nugget from my book, Get It Together (Without Losing Your Mind)“Small wins release dopamine.” That brain boost? It keeps you going.

Stop waiting for the stars to align or for motivation to strike you magically. Motivation is fleeting. Habits? They’ll carry you further.

Your Summer Goal-Getter Checklist:

✅ Pick ONE messy goal to work on
✅ Break it into bite-sized, imperfect steps
✅ Find your accountability buddy (we love a good hype squad)
✅ Celebrate every small win—confetti and glitter optional but highly encouraged
✅ Adjust as you go—progress over perfection, always

Real Talk Reminder

Your goals are allowed to evolve. You’re allowed to pivot. You’re allowed to start today, even if you have no clue what step two looks like yet.

The only wrong move? Waiting for perfect.

So… ready to get messy? Drop your messy goal in the comments or DM me. Let’s fumble our way to success together.

You got this—mess, adjustments, and all.
